10x100 Days of Critical Urgency
An ultimate window of opportunity for a peaceful reorganisation of society within planetary boundaries
Why does 10x100 matter ?
Ad hoc crisis response is overstretching the capacity of many organisations to address complex challenges and promote long-term change. This leads to interlinked crises which are a symptom of larger structural challenges. Due to the dynamics between historical injustices and vulnerabilities, interconnected shocks and the tipping of complex systems, humanity has entered a new era of risk1.
The related polycrisis2 is rooted in world views, institutional codes, narratives, models and laws that have mis-connected human activity to its biophysical reality. Right now, humanity is at a crossroads. Although scientific knowledge is plentiful, the work towards low-risk decarbonisation and deep societal transition is not advancing at necessary speed and scope.
The next 10x100 days are a scientifically backed timeframe3 to transform human activity by design instead of by disaster. This timeframe has to be understood as a turning point for WHERE our planetary society is heading and HOW we coordinate for systemic shifts.
How does 10x100 work?
10x100 is a learning-centred mission management framework* for projects, organisations and networks to engage with the polycrisis by strategically aligning for giant leaps and XXL transformations in tangible 100 day commitments, supported through a joint protocol and frequently shared insights.
* also organising mode or design approach depending on the context
10x100 formats combine cross-sectoral alignment (10x100 Mission Quarterly) with organisational reflections (10x100 Monthly Pulse) and team management (10x100 Weekly Kickoff). All formats are self-organised, supported by tools and training. Connected to a platform, these elements strengthen the development of an accountable practice that addresses the next decisive years in tangible timeframes of 100 day missions.
The 10x100 protocol is build on three main elements: 1) Looking outwards — acknowledging the increased dynamics of a rapidly changing environment, 2) Sensing inward — evaluating the way we respond to the science in our day to day capacities; 3) Leaping forward — Shifting priorities drastically for combining short term crisis response with long term systemic change.
What happens when you apply 10x100?
Engaging with the polycrisis renders predictability and control as outdated modi operandi. The regular application of 10x100 matches science with appropriate action by facing the biophysical reality of shrinking natural resources and increasing real-world risks proactively.
Leadership in an era of persistent emergencies is an evolving function created through mission orientation, open learning and accountable adaptation. 10x100 supports daily management and related decision making processes by providing a dynamic way for combining emergency response with long-term transformations – and is therefore changing the way we organise change.
The management framework enables organisational shifts from commitment to accountable impact across the entire value chain. Approaching these shifts together will make it easier to create new markets, adjust legislation and coordinate for giant leaps.

Who are 10x100 practitioners?
Driving large scale transitions requires the seeding of multitudes, coalitions evolving across different interest groups to design transformative pathways into a low-material economy. Rather than spurring the fragmentation of transition initiatives, 10x100 provides an approach to accelerate action across different contexts and interests.
10x100 practitioners and supporters are aware of the structural barriers for engaging with the polycrisis and are working towards more drastic measures. Instead of shying away from the complexity of massive collaboration, we are engaged in leveraging each other's impact by strategically reinforcing it.
The first generation of alliance members are individuals, teams, organisations and networks who see value in prototyping 10x100 for large-scale alignment beyond known settings. They have formed, so called 10x100 circles, around public crisis networks, civic transition initiatives, international organisations and critical transformation topics.
Who is behind 10x100 ?
10×100 has been initiated by Politics for Tomorrow and Dark Matter Labs and kicked off at the European Forum Alpbach in September 2022 with remarkable thought leaders from academia, culture, civil society, business, philanthropy, think tanks, law, politics and public administration.
